Metallica Header

Welcome to my page dedicated to Metallica. The menus above may not function properly if you are using a screen resolution less than 1024x768. I've taken down the nut-case letter from this page but you can still read it if you like (it's, ummm, interesting...).

If you would like to listen to some sound clips or view videos, then goto my Sound Vault or to my movie section for videos. I also have images in my Image Gallery. I have all of the LYRICS to every Metallica song (including covers) and many GUITAR TABS.

For something a little different, there are Useless/Interesting Facts. I have many Links on this page and in a separate section. There are also Polls to view and participate in (see the right side of the screen). A newer feature is the Metallica Quiz. See if you're a big enough expert to get onto the high score list! All the latest Metallica news and info is on this page (just scroll down). There is also an Old News section.

If you are interested, I have some recommendations of other bands you may like if you are a Metallica fan. You can also check out a list of CDs I own to see what else you might like. There is a Metallica font available for download. There are also 2 very good Metallica WinAmp skins to download. I have added a Java Chatroom if you would like to discuss Metallica with other fans. The MIDI Player Jukebox can now be launched in a separate window. Check out the better Flash version of this page.

Recording halted as James goes into Rehab

James Hetfield ended 20 years of denial and finally admitted that he is addicted to alcohol and other substances. He has checked into a rehab center. For the moment, recording for the new album has stopped.

Band goes into the Studio

Metallica reports that they are back into the studio to record another album. No word yet on when it is to be released. I wouldn't expect to see it until sometime next year. Right now, Producer Bob Rock is handling some of the bass playing.

Banned CD and the Napster Lawsuit

There is a recording of Metallica in 1981 (2 years before Kill 'Em All). This import is called Bay Area Thrashers: The Early Years. This is great for fans but its supply has become limited because of the ban. Read about the ban and the CD.

In fairly well known news, Metallica has sued the popular program Napster. Get the history and the latest info on the lawsuit.

Newest Release: S & M

In November 1999, Netallica released a new CD and video, S & M of their concert with the San Francisco Symphony. You can read about the CD and the video in the new Album Review Section.

The Concerts

I have been to 2 Metallica concerts: One in April 1997 and one in December 1999. Both concerts were great! If you are interested in what went on during each concert (including set lists), you can read my experiences here:

Look up concert dates.

Woodstock '99

Metallica returned once again to Woodstock (they performed at Woodstock '94 also). This time around they headlined Saturday night from the east stage. As most of you probably already know, Saturday night turned violent during the Limp Bizkit set as audience members started tearing down the camera stands while others got injured body surfing. Limp Bizkit was followed by Rage Against the Machine and then Metallica. As usual, Metallica was great (I heard some of it on the radio). Unfortunately they did not play any new songs (see above), so I had to wait to hear what they are like.

The Truth About Load & Reload

The truth about these two albums is that they are very good albums and in many ways are just as good as the old albums. The only reason people don't like these albums is because of the differences between them and the old albums. There are now 13 or 14 songs on the albums and out of those maybe 7 to 11 (or more) of them are "good" (depending on what you like). This is the same number of "good" songs per album but it seems like less because you now have more "bad" songs. In a time when there are so few good bands left and the only stuff on the radio is crap like the Back Street Boys it can be dissapointing to not have all "good" songs on a Metallica album, something fans have gotten used to. With all of these bad bands and others "selling out" like the Smashing Pumpkins, it irks fans to hear songs like "The Memory Remains" where Metallica "sells out" (not my words - I just think the song is bad). The truth is that these two albums are good and all true Metallica fans realise this. Also, anyone who knows anything about music knows that bands develop and sometimes they play slightly different music ("Nothing Else Matters" is completely different from any other Metallica song but fans still love it). As for the Smashing Pumpkins, they started to go techno-ish on Meloncolie with "1979," the last song put on the album. The transformation was completed when they kicked Jimmy Chamberlin out of the band and brought on Filter's (a techno band) drummer. Unlike Metallica, the Smashing Pumpkins have only released 4 or 5 good songs out of about 20 since they went through this change. SP did regroup with Chamberlin and released a new album, Machina, which is really good; however they have since anounced their break-up.

Discography and Album Reviews

Get the Metallica Discography This is huge. It lists many singles as well as bootlegs. This was last updated in 1994. If anyone has a newer version, please mail it to me.

I have also set up a page which acts as sort of a discography but serves mainly for the purpose of album reviews. Here you can see ratings for albums as well as several reviews. You can also get album info, images, sounds, and whatever else I can think of puting. Check it out.

Albums Sold

Over the years, Metallica has become one of the best selling artists. Their sale numbers are not only interesting but can also serve as a way of seeing which albums fans prefer. See Metallica's album sales and certification.

My Commentary on Imports

What's up with Metallica imports- they are $12 (at least) for a single + 1 live performance + 1 "Bonus Song." These include a "Hero of the Day remix" (which I'm almost afraid to listen to) and "F.O.B.D." which is an early demo of "Untill it Sleeps." The only good thing about it is that the guitars use distortion. The drums suck, but it's preety funny cuz James just keeps going "nah-nah-nah." If you're looking for a good laugh you should buy that. There is also a remix of "Until it Sleeps" which I listened to. It sounds nothing like the song. Some guy just took a sythesizer and some computers, did some crap and added James singing a few lyrics from the song later. There is one good import: "Hero of the Day: Part 3". There are 4 bonus/cover songs on this. All 4 cover songs are originally by Motorhead. These four songs are the last four songs on disk 2 on Garage, Inc.

Point of Interest (Maybe)

A band called Apocalyptica has released a CD which has them playing(on their cellos) Metallica songs. These include Enter Sandman, Creeping Death, Harvester of Sorrow, Sanitarium, and a few others. It isn't too bad (hey it is Metallica's music). There's no lyrics so if you're like my parents and only like the instrumentals, this CD may be for you. Personally, I would keep it if someone gave it to me but it is not high on my want list. Buy this CD

Awards

In 1996, Metallica won Best Hard Rock Performance for "Untill it Sleeps" at both the MTV Music Awards and the American Music Awards. However, they failed to be even nominated at the Grammys. Basically, they got jilted. In 2000, at the Grammys, they won Best Hard Rock Performance for "Whiskey in the Jar." I don't agree with that choice, but they won despite my objections. Metallica has also won a Grammy for "Enter Sandman." At the 1999 Billboard Music Awards, Metallica was named Top Catalog Artist of the Year (whatever that is). On April 7, 2001, Metallica won the Artist Contribution Award at the ESPN Action Sports & Music Awards.

Well, all the green things died when Ronnie moved to this place.
He said, "Don't you dare ask why I'm cursed to wear this face."
Well, now we all know why the children call him Ronnie Frown,
When he pulled that gun from his pocket, then they all fell down, down, down!
