Cliff Burton's amazing bassist skills are shown-off on the bass-and-drum track "(Anesthesia)-Pulling Teeth". One difference that I perceive between this labum and later albums is that Lars' drum-playing isn't as good on this album as on the others (this is just my opinion).
Since Dave Mustaine was a member of the band until just before they recorded this album, he helped write many of the songs: "The Four Horsemen", "Phantom Lord", "Jump in the Fire", and "Metal Militia". "The Four Horsemen" is even played in a less developed form as "The Mechanix" by Megadeth.
This is Metallica's lowest selling studio album (not including St. Anger) - that should tell you something. I recomend this to only die-hard fans.

My notes/review:
Metallica's first album. I really like this album, but apparently it's only for die-hard fans. I've heard many people say that they don't like it. The sound of the songs is much rougher and less developed than on later albums. However, there are many good songs: "Motorbreath", "Jump in the Fire", "Hit the Lights", "Whiplash", "The Four Horsemen", and the fan-favorite "Seek & Destroy".
